From the theoretical analysis and operation results, the performance of high throughput engineering test reactor (HFETR) 80 boxes and 60 boxes of fuel components core was compared. The results show that the core of the HFETR 80 box element has the same core performance as the 60 box element in allowing power, material irradiation, single-crystal doping, and molybdenum-technetium isotope production. The 80-cell reactor core is more conducive to the operation of the 500kW test circuit after the reactor is piled into the heap, which is beneficial to significantly improve the output and component utilization ratio of high-ratio ~ (60) Co medical sources.
