居住条件对人们生活、学习和健康都有重要影响.随着农村经济的发展.农村已逐年兴建了大量新住宅。为了搞好新农村规划与住宅建筑、给广大农民创造一个有利生产、方便生活的舒适、卫生、美好又实用的居住环境,以增进健康,提高农民的精神文化生活,根据全国村镇规划与住宅建筑卫生科研方案的要求、组成了宁夏住宅卫生科研协作组,于1980～1982年对我区农村住宅卫生现状开展了调查,为制订全国住宅卫生标准提供了科学依据。
