Fluorescence microscopy has been used extensively in biology, but only as a side effect of conventional skin biopsy methods by accident. Similarly, although cytology is used almost routinely in a number of medical professional settings, it is not routinely used in pico-exams. Recently, Tring et al. (1976) described a fluorescent dye diamidillodiphenylamine dihydrochloride, which is a convenient, rapid and effective fluorescent dye that is sometimes added to synthetic media to inhibit pertussis Aromatic amidine of bacilli contaminants.
