Schistosome protease has been recognized as a key enzyme in the life history of schistosomes and plays a role in several biological processes that penetrate the skin and include digestive and immune responses. In schistosome proteases, it has been demonstrated that a 28 kDa serine protease is associated with susceptibility to schistosomes. This elastase has been cloned from a cytomegalovirus cDNA library. Northern blot analysis showed that the expression of Schistosoma mansoni was regulated by its development in the life history. In situ hybridization showed that the enzyme was synthesized by pest-specific cells at different stages, suggesting that its expression was tightly controlled. for research
