Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are the main cause of death in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Data show that the incidence of cardiovascular disease in patients with SLE increased. The authors used a registry of inpatient care at hospitals in California to determine the overall relative prevalence of acute myocardial infarction (AMI), congestive heart failure (CHF), and cerebrovascular accident (CVA) in SLE patients.
