To further clarify the beneficial effects of androgens on coronary heart disease in elderly men and the occurrence of nitric oxide (NO) / endothelium-derived relaxation factor (EDRF), we observed the effect of testosterone on rabbit aorta and cultured rabbit aortic endothelial cells NO / EDRF regulation of the role. NO / EDRF production was measured using stimulation of cGMP formation in rabbit embryonic lung-6 (RFL-6) fibroblasts. The results showed that androgen could stimulate the production of NO / EDRF in rabbit aortic and rabbit aortic endothelial cells. Suggesting that androgen-dependent EDRF-induced vasodilatation may be one of the mechanisms by which male hormones relieve angina and improve myocardial ischemia in elderly male patients with coronary heart disease.
