纵览枪械发展的历史,可以发现一个有趣的现象:每种新型号步枪产生后,几乎都有相应型号的短步枪出现。短步枪成了步枪的忠实伴侣。根据主要作战对象的不同,也有人将短步枪称为卡宾枪、短自动步枪或其它名称。首先使用较短步枪的是骑兵,所以短步枪也被称为骑枪、马枪。由于目前装备或正在研制试验的小口径步枪都具有突击步枪的性质,所以相应的短步枪也称为短突击步枪。以下统称为短步枪。
An overview of the history of firearms development reveals an interesting phenomenon: almost every model rifle appeared after each new type of rifle was produced.
