The purpose of this paper is to outline some of the new trends in the Precambrian in southern Sweden. Due to the length of the article, many important details have been deleted. For the same reason, only a few references are listed. Of particular concern, however, is the age determination and interpretation of Welin and his colleagues at Naturhistoriska riksmuseet in Stockholm, the geological work of the Lund and University of Copenhagen team, and the work of the Goteborg Geological Survey Branch. The references listed in Lundqvist (1979) and Gorbatschev and Welin (1980) are helpful and Lundqvist’s article (1979) also provides general background information.
