In the Lisbon Valley region, the geologic similarity of uranium-vanadium and copper deposits and the co-production of uranium, vanadium and copper minerals in a uranium deposit on the Colorado Plateau suggest that these deposits share a common Cause. Uranium-vanadium deposits are produced in the sedimentary rocks of the Permian, Triassic and Jurassic. The copper deposits are mainly produced in Cretaceous sandstones but also in older strata and Tertiary volcanic breccias. The geological characteristics of the deposit vary in each of the surrounding rocks, but in fact all plateaus occur as plate-shaped orebodies in practically unetched sandstone. Most uranium-vanadium deposits are far away from the fault, but the copper deposits are generally only found in the fractured rocks near the fault. Metallic minerals dip sandstone and carbonaceous material, and copper minerals also appear in small cracks. Uranium and vanadium minerals are found in several copper deposits and copper minerals are found in many uranium deposits. Copper ores are precipitated from deep cryogenic solutions that move along the Tertiary faults. Uranium-vanadium ores may have precipitated from the same or similar solutions by moving along the favorable strata.
