我场位于黄海之滨,东经120°49＇,北纬30°05＇。这里原是一片海滩地,地下水位在2米以上,沙质壤土,土壤含盐量较高,一般在0.1％。1959年围海造田后,对土壤进行了认真改良。目前,0—60厘米土层中含盐量为0.0172％,PH8左右;60—80厘米土层中含盐量为0.043％,PH8.5左右。常年平均气温为 13.4℃,最高气温（7月份）为21℃,最低气温（1月份）为0.1℃。年平均降雨量为1185毫米,7月份最多达285.8毫米,占24.05％,12月份最低为23.6毫米,占2％。年平均湿度为79％,6月份最大为86％,1月份最低为76％。 根据以上自然条件,在1967年我们进行了毛竹引种试验。栽植时,首先选用熟田,按15×15尺的株行距（每亩27株）,共栽安徽竹母294株（11.1亩）,栽植穴规格为 5×2.5×1.5尺,用熟表土和青草绿肥做基肥。栽后浇定根水,天干抗旱,并组织了锄草、松土、壅根等抚育工作。7月份检查,成活264株,成活率90％,当年有29株出笋32支。
