As competition in the global mobile communications market intensifies, the area of competition has shifted from current terrestrial cellular mobile communications to space satellite mobile communications. Globalstar is another newcomer to the competition in the satellite mobile communications system after the iridium satellite mobile communications system was put into operation on November 1, 1998.
