用渗氮法提高高速钢刀具的切削寿命,是我们所熟知的方法。有的工厂正在进行这方面的试验工作。但碳素工具钢及合金工具钢渗氮后所具的优越切削性能,还不会引起我们的注意。这篇著作介绍了常用工具钢在渗氮后增加了热硬性,提高了切削寿命1.5至3倍。我们在高速钢还不能充分自给的今日,碳素工具钢及合金工具钢应当是刃具材料之一,因此其氮化後切削寿命的提高是值得我们注意的事情。这不但能节约工具材料,并且能减少工人因换刀而损失的工时。本文指出,渗氮後耐磨性可提高二至五倍,这对量具制造来说也是极有意义的。同时,氮化不像氰化有中毒的危险,操作安全,不需隔离的房屋。刃具厂、量具厂和自制刃具、量具较多的机床厂在易于取得液能氮的条件下,将现有的箱形电炉酌为改装,工具钢的氮化处理是应该被采用,而且也是可付诸实施的方法。
