1999年岁末,我馆领导派我们去西北进行了一次考察学习。我们从北京出发后,先到西安,接着从西安经兰州,走河西走廊到敦煌;然后从敦煌至张掖翻越祁连山进入青海;之后又从青海渡黄河折回甘肃,经兰州、夏河、天水;最后从天水返京。一路行程近万里,经历二十一天(1999年12月22日—2000年1月12日),先后考察了陕西、甘肃、青海三省的博物馆、名胜古迹四十多处。其中,对考察的佛教遗迹留下的印象最为深刻,当时的情况仍历历在目。
At the end of 1999, the leaders in our museum sent us to visit and study in the northwest. After we set out from Beijing, we first went to Xi’an and then from Lanzhou in Xi’an to Hexi Corridor to Dunhuang. Then we crossed Qilian Mountains from Dunhuang to Zhangye and entered Qinghai. Then we turned to Qinghai from Qinghai to Gansu, Lanzhou, Xiahe and Tianshui. Finally, Tianshui back to Beijing. With a journey of nearly 10,000 miles and an experience of 21 days (December 22, 1999 - January 12, 2000), we visited 40 museums and historic sites in Shaanxi, Gansu and Qinghai. Among them, the most profound impression left on the Buddhist monuments inspected was still vivid at the time.
