去年10月26日，为纪念我国现代著名历史学家吕思勉先生逝世40周年，上海史学界30余位专家学者集会于他生前任教的华东师大，追念先生的史学业绩和治史精神。与会专家高度评价了吕先生在中国通史、断代史、制度史、专门史、史籍整理筹方面博大精深的史学业绩，并就先主的治史精神、史学观念、治史凤格以及中国通史新范型等作了深入研讨。与会者一致认为先生留给后人的，不仅仅是丰厚无比的史学遗产，还有他的道德风尚，赤诚的爱国之心，对民族、国家、社会深沉的关切，以及为人师表、献身教育的风范，弥足珍贵，都值得后学者认真总结、弘扬光大。与会专家应本刊之约，纷纷赐稿。现先行刊出“笔谈”8篇，以飨读者。
