每个民族都有自己的艺术文化的特色。 中国古代的艺术家和观众们,对于艺术——包括绘画、雕塑、戏曲等等,更看重作品中所表现的“善”和“美”,并不要求艺术达到与生活中的事物完全相似的“真”。 西方中世纪号称“四大教父”之一的圣·奥古斯丁(St.Augustine)曾认为:只有承认演戏是假的,才能达到真正感人的艺术效果。他说:“一幅画中的马不是假的话,这幅画又怎么称得上是真正的绘画呢?”(《忏悔录》)中国古代的艺术家和观众很早就懂得一个道理:
