In this paper, the behavior of tungsten arc welding in narrow gap was theoretically studied, and the mathematical model of the electric field distribution in the arc column was established and proved experimentally. The results show that the welding arc is no longer in a free combustion state due to the limitation of the gap sidewall, and its electric field distribution changes. A certain amount of welding current flows to the sidewall, but the current density is very small at the intersection of the bottom plate and the sidewall . When the angle of intersection is sharp, the current density tends to zero. Based on the above reasons, in the narrow gap in the TIG welding, if you do not take the appropriate process measures, will cause the poor side wall fusion.
