1月25日,日本相扑界爆出轰动世界的新闻,这便是美国人曙成为第一个荣获相扑“横纲”称号的外国人。相扑是日本的国技,发源于公元前一世纪,16世纪开始有人以相扑为业。最高级别的相扑选手为横纲,300年来只不过出现了63位横纲。无怪乎当这具有悠久历史的荣衔被异族染指时,立即引起世人瞩目。美国新闻媒介更是兴奋不己。美国有线电视网(CNN)指出,目前日本只有一位横纲,而他却是美国人,“相扑已进入美国人称霸的时代”。
