在武穴城区北10公里,有一条气势磅薄的武山湖。碧波荡漾的湖心,有一座状如鲤鱼的小岛,名武山寨。传说当年朱元璋与陈友谅大战潘阳湖,兵败,沿长江逃至武山湖,面对烟波浩缈的湖水仰天长叹。在这危急关头,一条巨鲤游至面前,将朱元璋驮至小岛,得以脱离危险。 美丽的湖泊、神奇的传说,引无数英雄竞折腰。武山寨小学校长廖春云就是一位杰出的代表。一提起他,四邻八乡的父老乡亲无不称赞他是一位热爱教育、吃苦耐劳、大有作为的好校长。
