图书分类工作是一门科学性和逻辑性很强的专业技术工作,对于分类人员必须有较高的文化水准、专业素养、思辨能力和学识水平。一个合格的分类人员应具备下列五个条件:(1)具备大专以上的基础文化水准,我国有关文件还明确要求由具有馆员以上专业技术职务的人员担负分类编目的审核任务。(2)要经过专门的图书馆学专业学习,受过严格的专业训练,要对图书馆学、对本馆使用的“图书分类法”、对分类编目条例等有一定的研究,熟谙其体系与结构,要根据本院校的专业设置、读者对象和用书特点调整和增设必要的类目,对本馆的目录组织、目录体系也要掌握娴熟。(3)要有一定的古汉语或外语水平。
