Frequent use of fire regulations and the growing rural population are making the smoke problem worse. The Southern Forest Research Institute at Georgia Macon studied the problem of smoke from burning and disseminated knowledge about burning. Now some businesses and major timber operators have started to train smoke managers and formulate corresponding guidelines and measures to solve these problems. Many states also use state-wide smoke management.
