Dominique Strauss-Kahn, born April 25, 1949 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, a suburb of Paris, France, spent her childhood in Morocco. When young, Kahn was a brilliant man, studied at the Institut du Commerce et de l’Église in Paris and the Paris Institute of Politics under the French Academy of Political Science, and received his PhD from the University of Paris. In addition, he holds degrees in law, business administration, politics and statistics. As a scholar, his research interests include household savings behavior, public finance and social policy. Kahn started his career at the University of Paris, where he first served as an assistant professor of economics at the school and was then appointed professor and received his tenure in 1978. From 1981 to 1986, Kahn was deputy director of the French Economic Planning Agency and was elected as a member of the National Assembly in 1986. From 1988 to 1991, he presided over the work of the Finance Committee of the National Assembly. From 1991 to 1993, he was minister for French industrial and international trade, during which he participated in the Uruguay Round of trade negotiations. From June 1997 to November 1999, Kahn was French Minister of Economy, Finance and Industry. During his tenure, he presided over the activities of the Council that introduced the euro and represented France on behalf of several international financial institutions, including the International Monetary Fund. From 2000 to 2001, he taught economics at the Paris School of Politics and was a visiting professor at Stanford University in the United States. He is also a personal advisor to the Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). From 2001 to 2007, Kahn was elected to the National Assembly for three times, and in 2006 ran for the nomination of President of the Socialist Party of France. Kahn succeeded Rodrigo Rato as the tenth president of the International Monetary Fund on November 1, 2007. After taking office, Kahn said he will focus on promoting the reform of the International Monetary Fund.
