This article describes a genetically engineered gun that has been engineered to deliver foreign genes to rice cells for expression using this new gene gun. Exogenous gene (GUS) expression was detected in suspension cells after bombardment of rice suspension cells and mature seed embryos with tungsten microprojectiles coated with pBI 121 plasmid DNA. Embryogenic callus in the absence of antibiotic selection under the conditions of expansion and differentiation, regeneration, a total of 30 green plantlets. GUS gene was found in total plant DNA of two of the two strains detected by DNA dot blot hybridization. Southern hybridization analysis confirmed that the GUS gene was integrated into the rice genome.
