“华侨”,《现代汉语词典》释为:“旅居国外的中国人。”《辞海》释作:“侨居国外的具有中国国籍的人。”两者虽可达意,但未涉及语源。 我国古称华夏,“华”是华夏的简称;“侨”指寄居于异地。
“Overseas Chinese” and “Modern Chinese Dictionary” are interpreted as: “Chinese living abroad.” “Cihai” is released as “a person of Chinese nationality living abroad.” Although both can reach the source, they do not address the source of etymology. China is the ancient name of China, “Hua” is short for Huaxia; “Overseas Chinese” means to live in different places.
