蒙山大佛位于山西太原晋源区金胜乡寺底村西北二里的蒙山,北齐高洋于天保二年(公元551年)将东魏大庄严寺扩建为开化寺,开凿了高200尺的摩崖大佛,称为西山大佛,比中外驰名的四川乐山大佛早162年,是我国最早的露天摩崖石刻大佛,比已炸毁的西方公认“世界第一大佛”阿富汗巴米扬大佛高10米。作为山西及至世界佛教、建筑、雕刻史上的一大奇迹,蒙山大佛目前已引起国内有关学界的关注。
