The Seminar on the Current Situation and Trends of Chinese Opera, hosted by the Chinese Opera Research Institute, was held in Beijing from January 15 to January 18, 1988. Over 60 middle-aged and young opera theorists and practitioners from Beijing and throughout the country participated in the conference. The meeting took an impromptu speech instead of a paper presentation, which was lively and enthusiastic, showing the characteristics and personality of middle-aged and young people. Meeting to “explore the truth, to seek friendship” for the purpose of embodying “a hundred schools of thought” style of study.
