Ｗ．Ｅ．Ｂｒａｎｔ教授是当今美国著名的放射学专家。１９９４年主编出版了放射学巨著《ＦｕｎｄａｍｅｎｔａｌｓｏｆＤｉａｇｎｏｓｔｉｃＲａｄｉｏｌｏ－ｇｙ》一书，该书集常规、ＣＴ、ＭＲＩ、超声及核医学等当今所有影像学于一体，出版后很快就成为放射科住院医师手头必备的参考书之一。顾伟中教授于１９８９年和１９９５年两次赴美进修访问，在前后共４年的时间里，深入考察了美国放射学的现状，并在这方面搜集了许多极有价值的资料。本刊今起分两期连续刊登二位作者合作撰写的“美国放射学概况”一文。该文详细而生动地叙述了美国放射学的发展历史和现状，对临床、教学、科研等各方面均作了具体而详实的描述，对学术团体和出版物也作了全面而概要的介绍。读者从中不难窥见美国放射学的轮廓和概貌。我国在改革开放后迅速引进了大量先进的影像学设备和技术，使放射学得到了突飞猛进的发展，已完全改变了传统放射科的工作局面。但与此同时，在新情况下，国内同道们在诸如科室管理与建设，各专业组和各种影像手段之间的统筹与分工，特别是培养新一代影像学住院医师的方向与方法上，都遇到了新的挑战。面对这种挑战，如何制订对策，本文为我们提供了许多有益的借鉴和启示
