Over the past 25 years (1965-1990), the world’s capture fisheries have seen steady growth. The growth process can be divided into three stages: the development of catchments in the upwelling areas and nearshore fisheries led to an increase in catch production in the 1960s; the increase in output in the 1970s was due to the exploitation of Peruvian anchovy resources; the development of upper-level fish in the shallow sea The fishing production in the 1980s continued its slow growth momentum. Much of the world’s catch comes from the intercontinental shelf (water depths of less than 200 meters, usually in waters less than 50 meters deep). Much of this comes from the highly productive sea areas in the northern hemisphere, the Near Arctic and upwelling areas.
