马坚教授是著名的宗教学家和语言学家,他的学术兴趣甚为广泛。他翻译出版的书,种类很多。大概说来,他的学术成就包括三个方面:第一,是关于伊斯兰经典的翻译;第二,是关于近代外国论著的翻译;第三,是关于历史文献的考订。关于伊斯兰经典的翻译,主要是对于《古兰经》的翻译。马坚翻译《古兰经》,最初是由上海中国回教学会发起的,伍特公、沙善余、哈德成参与其事。他们在翻译过程中,参考了一些著名 Professor Ma Jian is a famous religious scientist and linguist, his academic interest is very extensive.
