As Finland's national research funding agency, the Finnish Academy of Sciences invests about one-fifth of its research funding each year in multidisciplinary research projects. In 2003, the Finnish Academy of Sciences decided to invest 41.3 million euros to launch seven multidisciplinary research programs: the GMO Environmental, social and health effects; future electronics; health care research; industrial design; Russian research projects; social capital and trust networks; and systems biology and bioinformatics.
