按照国家“建立健全畅通、安全、便捷的现代综合运输体系”要求,并结合公路交通自身发展现状,交通部已经确定2020年以前公路交通发展具体目标和本世纪中叶的战略目标。 新的发展战略提出,到2010年,全国公路总里程达到200万公里,其中高速公路3.5万多公里;到2020年,全国公路总里程达到250多万公里,高速公路达到7万公里以上;到本世纪中叶并力争更早些,公路交通基本实现现代化。
