6 There is a complex relationship between hepatitis virus (HBV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The close coexistence of HDV and HBV infection makes it difficult to determine the role of HDV infection in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In chronic HBV infection, the mechanism by which HBV-DNA integrates the DNA from the host to the cell remains unclear. HBV carriers in HDV-infected patients showed further liver damage. 1977
