这次座谈会是八三年大连会议以来探矿部门的一次继往开来的盛会，来自全国二十九个省、市、自治区地矿局、地质队以及部机关、院校、厂、所（站）的一百二十二名代表出席了会议。会议于六月二十六日至三十日在北京西山八大处召开。会议召开前夕，夏国治副部长听取了工业公司的汇报，并作了重要指示。六月二十八日晚朱训部长到会看望了大家，并作了重要讲话。云南、宁夏、辽宁、广西、福建五个省局的副局长及部探矿工程装备工业公司李常茂、张志民、孟宪琛三位副经理出席了
