使用自制上颌活动矫治器引导生长期大鼠下颌向前，应用游离下颌骨ｘ线测量方法，研究下颌最终长度的变化，结果显示未持续戴矫治器的实验Ａ组，下颌最终长度较对照组间无显著性差异，仅下颌支与体后交角较对照组明显减小，而持续戴矫治器的实验Ｂ组，下领持续增长最终长度较对照组明显增加，下颌形态发生变化，提示持续戴矫治器至成年可以保持疗效，防止复发，而矫治后不保持则出现复发，致使下颌最终长度无明显变化。
