Invasive Aspergillus infections have a high mortality rate, and have become a serious clinical problem especially in patients with leukemia and neutropenia. As recently reported by Fraser et al., Aspergillus infection has become the third most common systemic fungal disease in the United States and its incidence has been increasing most rapidly. This increase reflects the aging of the population and an increase in the immunosuppressive state of the population. Some researchers believe that the occurrence of aspergillus infections in hospitalized damaged hosts is associated with poor ventilation. There are currently no hands to guide the infection control staff to monitor the quality of the air in the hospital or to check the air handling system when updating or building a new hospital. In the fall and winter of 1977, we found an increase in the rate of detection of Aspergillus flavus in the respiratory samples of hospitalized patients in North Carolina Memorial Hospital. We conducted an epidemiological survey and found that
