今天,鱼雷对我们海上舰队的威胁丝毫不亚于二战期间其给穿越大西洋船队造成的威胁。由于先进的鱼雷武器在公开的市场上可以购买,越来越多的高性能武器平台被潜在的敌对势力所掌握,加上战术运用的多样化,致使我们难以估测敌人采取的攻击方式。以上不利因素决定了我们必须拥有一种防御系统,此系统能够自动向操作者发出鱼雷攻击的紧急警报。鱼雷防御被认为是反潜战中的重要环节。美国海军鱼雷防御计划小组相信海军水下武器中心新港分部能满足在快速反应多威胁环境下这些能力的需求并为美国及其盟国海军提供鱼雷防御系统的研制帮助。
Today, the threat of a torpedo to our maritime fleet is as immense as the threat that it caused to the Transatlantic fleet during World War II. As advanced torpedo weapons are available for sale on the open market, an increasing number of high-performance weapons platforms are mastered by potential hostile forces, coupled with the diversification of tactical applications, making it difficult to assess how the enemy is attacking. The above unfavorable factors determine that we must have a defense system that automatically alerts the operator of torpedo attacks. Torpedo defense is considered an important part of the anti-submarine warfare. The US Navy’s Torpedo Defense Program Group believes that the Newport Division of the Navy’s Underwater Weapon Center can meet the needs of these capabilities in a rapidly reacting, multi-threat environment and to assist the United States and its allied nations in the development of a torpedo defense system.
