When discussing editorial concepts a few years ago, they referred to the relevant explanations of various dictionaries in the West and summarized the meaning of the word “editorial” as “preparing manuscripts for publication.” “Preparation” is a vague language. In order to illustrate the starting point and the end point of the editing work of modern books, a detailed solution to the problem is also put forward (see Zhuo Wen’s “Nature and Research Object of Book Editing”, “Publishing and Distribution Research ”1987 2). It now appears that both interpretations have limitations as editorial work goes well beyond books and publications and it is best to find a definition that covers all types of editorial work of ancient and modern times, The Evolution of Concepts and Their Differences.
