某一个星期六下午,当我正外出办事时,“滴滴滴……”声从挂在我腰带上的寻呼机(BP机)中发出。我低头一看,液晶屏幕上显示出一行文字——“捎几袋牛奶回家！”这显然是我太太在家发的“命令”。我从寻呼机上选了一个回答——“Yes/OK”,然后按了一个键。寻呼机将我的回答,通过一个全国范围的网络,很快就传回家中,显示在家用电脑屏幕上。当然,我太太那条“命令’,也是从家用电脑发出的。 这可不是科幻片,而是美国正在试验运行的新型的双向寻呼服务
On a Saturday afternoon, when I was out for business, “dripping ...” sounded from a pager (BP) hanging on my belt. I looked down and showed a line of text on the LCD - “Take a few bags of milk home!” This is clearly the “order” my wife made at home. I chose one answer from the pager - “Yes / OK” and then pressed a key. The pager sent my answer back to my home through a nationwide network and showed it on the home screen. Of course, my wife’s “order” is also issued from a home computer, not a science fiction film but a new two-way paging service that the United States is experimenting with
