This article presents a new type of accelerometer with a sensitive element that is a vibrating diaphragm. A small hemispherical air medium Fabry-Perot interferometer is used to measure the displacement of the vibrating diaphragm due to acceleration. A reflector of the interferometer is mounted on the vibrating diaphragm. The diode laser illuminates the interferometer and is addressed by a single-mode fiber.
