An ILO survey in 2002 found that one in 10 offices in the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Finland and Poland experienced symptoms of depression, anxiety and overdraft. According to the 2003 Global Competitiveness Report released by the World Economic Forum, Finland and the United States are the two most competitive countries this year. The ILO’s analysis shows that the information overload caused by the progress of science and technology, the speed of globalization, dysfunctional office politics, over-work and the job instability caused by the downsizing of the company in the past decade are all factors that cause excessive work pressure.
