In this paper, the main problems of Japan’s natural landslide and excavated slopes (or natural steep slopes) are summarized, and its stability measures and designs are reviewed. The Japanese archipelago is located between the Eurasian continent and the Pacific island arc, the geological formation is mainly divided into four parts: (1) Paleozoic to Mesozoic geosynclinal deposits formed metamorphic or non-metamorphic rocks; (2) late Mesozoic sea and land accumulation And volcanic rocks, granites, etc .; (3) Neotori-Quaternary volcano-erupted rocks or pyroclastic rocks; (4) alluvial layers. There are still seismic zone and arc volcano belt distribution, geological structure is complex. With the modern mountain development and utilization of man-made activities, landslides more.
