应对整合芯片组挑战——新一代显存共享技术解析

芯片组厂商对于创新声卡的围剿至今让人历历在目,甚至已经有人担心GPU 也会走上相同的道路。当然,这种担心多少显得有些多余,因为主流显卡还远不能满足近乎疯狂的3D 游戏,而且显卡有着太多的客观技术指标,这并非芯片组厂商在短时间内所能弥补。然而如果就此高枕无忧,那就等于是坐以待毙。随着PCI Express 接口时代的道来,显卡市场正面临一场由市场到技术的全面洗牌,此时性价比又不得不重新引起厂商的重视。通过显存共享技术,显卡的成本将能大幅度降低,或许这样才能让独立显卡有更多的资本去对抗虎视眈眈的整合显卡。第一章回眸AGP PCI Express 孕育新希望当显卡接口由PCI 向AGP 跃迁之时,厂商最大的期望无非是利用其相对较高的带宽,通过全新的总线来达到划分部分内存作为辅助显存的目的。事实上,显存一直是显卡发展的瓶颈之一,不仅显存带宽一直困扰着业界,显存容量也是急待解决的问题。然而随着MRT 多渲染目标技术的普及应用,GPU 所承担的渲染工作量呈几何级增长,此时显存带宽都已经捉襟见肘,更不用说最高带宽只有2. 1GB/s 的AGP 8X 通道。 Chipset manufacturers for innovative sound card encirclement so far, people are vivid, and some people have even worried about the GPU will embark on the same road.
