为在亚太地区扮演更为积极的防卫角色,澳大利亚海军目前正在加紧更新主力战舰。继8艘“安扎克”级导弹护卫舰建成服役后,澳政府在今年6月为海军新型“霍巴特”级防空驱逐舰项目选择了西班牙海军F 100级护卫舰的改型,同时决定以西班牙27000吨的战略投送舰的改型作为新型“堪培拉”级多用途两栖攻击舰的设计。虽然称作两栖攻击舰,但“堪培拉”级稍加改装就可摇身一变成为轻型航母。澳海军希望拥有航母的梦想已经存在了30年之久,“堪培拉”级在2012年服役后将重圆它的巨舰梦。
