本世纪上半叶,当西风东渐之际,有一些西方的医学界人士,各自服膺于他们国家对于中国的政治、军事、经济和宗教的目的,来到南通,从事医疗工作。在他们当中有:1912年来逮基督医院并任院长的美籍医师鲍伦德;1916年继任基督医院院长达20年的美籍海格门博士;一名见义勇为的美国护士麦文果;为南通装设第一台 X 光机的德国电学专家高汉君及总医长夏德门;三十年代为南通浆苗血清作开拓性研究的意大利医学博士贝贡新:还有在南通沦陷时期的几个日本医生。他们对当时南通西医事业的发展客观上作出了奠基性的贡献。
In the first half of this century, when the westerly eastward eastward, some western medical professionals came to Nantong and engaged in medical work for their respective political, military, economic and religious purposes in China.
