本月(1998年7月)6日,星期一,双休日之后的下午,我接到社(人民教育出版社)里的电话(我已告退,不上班),说收到山西运城的讣告,孙功炎先生于7月1日逝世,4日上午举行遗体告别仪式,已代发唁电云云。我听了,没有感到意外,因为知道他近几年健康情况不佳,在中条山养病,未能好转,有时神志不清,循自然规律,是将远行之兆,总不会很久,要走的。但设想的走与真走不一样,所以听到讣告,想到不会再见到,以及曾想去看他而终于没有去,一阵心酸,禁不住落了泪。
