Langmuir-Blodget technique was used to test the π-Α isotherms of a series of asphaltenes and glial films. The results show that asphaltene and gum in crude oil form insoluble membranes at the air-water interface. The properties of asphaltene membranes vary with the aromaticity of the extended solvents. The properties of the asphaltic membranes are different from those of asphaltene membranes. The interaction of the gum with the asphaltenes can significantly affect the properties of the asphaltene gum hybrid membrane
