Mechanical stability is an important feature of alumina. Unstable alumina is easily broken during the transfer from the Bayer plant to the aluminum electrolysis plant, especially in modern plants, and in dry decontamination. The reduction of the particle size will cause the electrolysis operation difficult. Laboratory studies show that the firing method significantly affects the strength of alumina. Thus, the purpose of this study was to test the mechanical strength of alumina from various plants in order to find the relationship between alumina strength and firing pattern, BET surface area and alumina particle size.
