On June 28, 2012, local newspapers in France and other major media in the world reported competing reports that Shanghai Sugar & Wine Group, a subsidiary of China Bright Food Group, acquired 70% of DIVA Bordeaux Wines, a famous French wine distributor. This is the first time that a Chinese company has successfully acquired a wine distributor overseas. It is also the first time that wine distributors in Bordeaux have been controlled by Chinese companies for several hundred years. The acquisition was highly praised by foreign media as ”high-tech."
