研究地区在新疆维吾尔自治区西北部的阿拉山口附近,约东经82°10′~82°40′,北纬44°50′~45°20′.构造上处在巩乃斯板块东北缘,北东以艾比湖断裂为界与准噶尔板块毗邻,走向北西的艾比湖断裂为上述两板块间的博罗霍洛山缝合线的一部分,前寒武纪结晶基底出露在研究区以西约100km的温泉县附近,研究区内主要出露泥盆系和石炭系地层,花岗岩类分布广泛.本区泥盆系玄武岩产于上泥盆统,与红色放射虫硅质泥岩互层,主要有两层,厚约0 .5和35m,岩石化学分析表明为海相碱性系列钠质类型玄武岩(刘因,1995),石炭系玄武岩产于下石炭统,夹于陆相碎屑岩和酸性火山岩中,厚15m,气孔构造发育,为陆相喷发产物,属低钾拉斑玄武岩,显然自晚泥盆世到早石炭世,玄武岩产出环境从深海变化到陆地.石炭系样品P154,~(87)Rb/~(86)Sr=0.0389,~(87)Sr/~(86)Sr(O)=0.70427±2,~(87)Sr/~(86)Sr(t)=0.7041;~(147)Sm/~(144)Nd=0.1159~(143)Nd/~(144)Nd(O)=0.513062±7,εNd(t)=±11.8,样品P201的相应值为:0.0799,

Carboniferous basalts originate in the Lower Carboniferous and are trapped in continental clastic and acidic volcanic rocks with a thickness of 15 m , Stomatal structure developed as continental eruption products, is a low-potassium tholeiite basalts, apparently from Late Devonian to Early Carboniferous, basalt production environment changes from the deep sea to the land.
