中华书局一九八二年版《戒庵老人漫笔》一书《点校说明》及《学林漫录》第四集《戒庵漫笔杂谭》一文有关李诩的介绍说:“李诩字厚德,自号戒庵老人,江阴县(今江苏属县)人。由于史书无李诩的传记,他的生平事迹,我们了解得还不详细。据本书的有关序跋,可知他生于明弘治十八年(公元一五○五年),……著有世德堂吟稿、名山大川记、心学摘要等,以上各书均亡佚,流传下来的只有这部戒庵漫笔。”
