Following Chairman Mao’s teaching that “China should make greater contribution to mankind,” and “Make great progress in bamboo development,” we completed the construction of reservoirs and encouraged the afforestation and soil and water conservation. During the four years from 1970 to 1973, a total of 2,000 mu of bamboos were developed with a preservation rate of 95%. So far, bamboo shoots have been widely grown. 108 acres of planted in 1970, is now a full park into forest, per acre volume 160-180 strains, the majority of more than 260 strains, the average chest circumference of about 10 cm, the coveted up to 24 cm. According to a survey conducted in 166 mu of bamboo groves, a total of 3239 new bamboos were produced from 1971 to 1973, with an average of 195 plants per mu. The bust of Hsinchu reached 12.8 centimeters and the quantity and quality of Hsinchu increased year by year (Table 1).
